What is a Metal Detector?
A metal detector is a device used to detect the presence of metal nearby. It works by generating a magnetic field and then analyzing the changes in that field caused by nearby metal objects. When a metal object comes into proximity with the detector, it disturbs the magnetic field, triggering an alert to the operator.
Uses of Metal Detectors:
- Security: Metal detectors are commonly employed in security screening at airports, government buildings, schools, and other public venues to detect concealed weapons or prohibited items made of metal.
- Archaeology: Archaeologists use metal detectors to locate buried artifacts and historical relics buried beneath the ground's surface.
- Treasure Hunting: Hobbyists and enthusiasts use metal detectors to search for coins, jewelry, and other valuable items buried underground or hidden in various locations.
Types of Metal Detectors:
Metal detectors come in various types and sizes, including handheld models for personal use and large walk-through scanners for security screening in public spaces.
